Tips for Holding a Special Event in a Bungalow

If you're looking for a cozy, intimate venue to hold a special event, consider a bungalow. A bungalow is a small house or cottage and typically features one floor. Its charming feel and layout make it an ideal space for hosting an event.

A bungalow is the perfect venue for any smaller-scale event, such as kid or adult birthday parties, holiday celebrations with family, friends or co-workers, corporate team-building events, anniversary or graduation soirees, wedding receptions, and bridal and baby showers. Since bungalows were usually once residential homes, many offer outdoor space as well, making the venue very flexible. 

After you've decided that a bungalow is the best venue fit for you, it's time to find one that you can reserve for your special event. Generally, you can rent out the entire space, but make sure to book it early, especially during the popular summer and winter holiday seasons. If you've chosen an out-of-town rental, you'll need to figure out how guests will get to and from the event, as well as where they can stay if they're traveling. They may be able to stay overnight in the bungalow if the rental company allows that. 

Here are some additional tips for holding a special event in a bungalow rental:

1. Food 

Since bungalows are homes, most feature full-size kitchens. Inquire ahead of time if the kitchen is fully equipped, especially if you plan on preparing your own party food. If it's a small crowd, you can make anything from appetizers to dessert onsite for convenience. For a larger guest list, consider having a catering company prepare the menu for you, or have food delivered from a local restaurant. 

2. Decorations and Furniture 

Many bungalow event space rentals come fully furnished, but you may need to add more seating options — as well as tables — if there aren't enough to accommodate all of your guests. You can either bring your own or get them on loan from a special events rental company. 

If you are able to access outdoor space, you may want to rent a party tent, or set up inflatables, such as a slide or bounce house for kid parties. Find out if grills are provided if you plan on cooking outdoors. 

When it comes to decorations, give the space a personal touch with colorful, themed balloons, centerpieces such as vases filled with fresh flowers, and string lights. You can have guests enter the party space under an eye-catching balloon arch as another idea.
