Seven Drug-Free Ways to Alleviate Mild-to-Moderate Pain

by Clarence Horton

Don't struggle with pain issues just because you don't want to take medication. Instead, try some drug-free ways to alleviate your discomfort. Always inform your physician when adding something new to your healthcare regimen, even if it is 100% all natural.

Seven ways to relieve pain are:

1.       Pain Products

Try an all-natural topical pain relief cream for aches, pains, and stiffness. These are widely found online or in health food markets for treating pain naturally. Make sure to protect your product from harmful bacteria by only using clean hands during application and keeping the container tightly closed between uses.

2.       Essential Oils

Buy skin-safe essential oil to rub directly into the skin for pain relief. Try lavender and chamomile for sore muscles or joints. Aromatherapy and diffusing essential oil can also be helpful, particularly black pepper oil, which can help relieve discomfort stemming from headaches to arthritis. Some combinations of essential oils can increase efficacy in many instances, but take a sniff before you diffuse to prevent sensitivity or any adverse reaction.

3.       Chiropractic Adjustment

Visit a chiropractor for drug-free pain relief through physical manipulations and adjustments. Chiropractors typically treat pain resulting from spine misalignment, such as a fall, misstep, or injury that puts awkward pressure on your core, back, and spine.

4.       Fish Oil

If you want to take a supplement for pain relief, consider fish oil. Fish oil is lauded for helping with joint pain, arthritis, and back pain by reducing inflammation that could be causing the problem. Keep your fish oil capsules in the freezer to reduce the fishy-odor that can be off-putting to some.

5.       Anti-Inflammatory Foods

If your pain is from an injury, add anti-inflammatory foods to your diet, like grapes, strawberries, leafy greens, and oily fish to reduce discomfort.

6.       Guided Imagery

Practice focusing on your breath and meditating when you are experiencing pain. Use guided imagery to image a calm and serene setting in your mind that helps you take focus off the pain. This approach can be helpful in reducing anxiety, which lowers blood pressure and could impact the severity of your pain.

7.       Hot and Cold Compresses

Hot and cold compresses may offer instant relief for some injuries or conditions, but there is some confusion regarding when to use heat and when to use ice. Use hot compresses to reduce stiffness, muscle tightness, and to get blood flowing to the region, but not within the first two days of the injury. Use cold compresses for pain relief to numb the area, to reduce swelling, and to stop bleeding.

Depending on the nature of your pain and level of discomfort, yoga and massage may offer therapeutic benefits. Talk to your provider to learn more.

Don't suffer with chronic or acute pain issues any longer. Try some all-natural ways, like an all natural pain relief cream, to alleviate common pain including headaches, joint pain, arthritis, and muscle strains. Consider these seven alternatives to medication for relief today.
